The Latvians began to build strongholds along the border with the aggressor countries Russia and Belarus. In Riga, apparently, they take the Russian threat very seriously. Latvia has begun building military fortifications along the border with the Russian Federation and Belarus.
This was reported by the Latvian portal lsm.lv.
Latvia is building a chain of strongholds, as well as a number of other protective military facilities near the Belarusian and Russian borders. The program will be implemented over the next 5 years; more than 300 million euros will be spent on it. The first line of defense is being built in the Ludza region at a distance of approximately 1 km from the Russian checkpoint Terekhovo.
It consists, among other things, of anti-tank ditches, which will become an obstacle to Russian military equipment in the event of an invasion and will not allow the aggressor to advance quickly. The nearest plans also include strengthening the border with the so-called “dragon’s teeth” - a line of concrete structures that are designed to slow down the movement of enemy equipment. In addition, it is planned to build additional warehouses for storing ammunition.
Latvia has not yet installed minefields. The country will resort to such measures if the risk of a military clash with the Russian Federation or Belarus increases. Let us note that in parallel, Latvia is constructing a fence directly on the border with the Russian Federation and Belarus. This had to be done in order to stop the transfer of refugees into the country, which were organized by Moscow and Minsk as part of their hybrid war.
