They plan to install Home-on GPS sensors on JDAM-ER bombs, which will help bypass Russian electronic warfare systems and direct the ammunition to the source of interference.

In anticipation of the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, the Pentagon decided to improve the guidance system of the JDAM-ER aerial bombs previously provided to Ukraine, which will seriously compete with their Russian counterparts on the battlefield. Recently, the occupiers' KABs have been causing serious damage not only to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but also to civilian infrastructure.

According to The War Zone, The Pentagon has allocated more than $23 million to equip JDAM-ER with the latest Home-on GPS sensors, which not only improve resistance to electronic warfare, but also direct the bomb to the source of interference. The US Department of Defense awarded a contract to Scientific Applications and Research Associates.

The agreement provides for the purchase of sensors to search for electronic warfare equipment and the integration of homing heads on JDAM-ER guided bombs. The number of improved bombs and the timing of their delivery to Ukraine are classified. As for the guidance kits themselves, there is almost no data about them. The publication reports that the manufacturing company first announced their creation in 2018.

Among the advantages of the new system is its relatively low cost. Previously, the Pentagon stated that the JDAM-ER bomb performed well during the war in Ukraine. At the same time, the need for its modernization arose after the Russian Army improved its electronic warfare systems, including those aimed against NATO-standard precision-guided ammunition.
